Abstract
The practice of Wu-shu, popularly known as Kung Fu, was introduced to Porto Alegre’s people by Master Lee Cheung Deh in 1975. After Master Lee’s arrival in Porto Alegre Wushu started to spread, specially the Northern Shaolin style, in places designed to martial arts practice. The objective of this study is to describe how Northern Shaolin Wu-shu practice was established in Porto Alegre city, from 1975 to 1992. Wu-shu practice in Porto Alegre was institutionalized after Master Lee’s exhibition. Due to the growing number of Northern Shaolin Wushu practitioners the local Kung Fu/Wushu federation (Federação Gaúcha de Kung Fu/Wushu) was created in 1992, and it is now named as Federação Gaúcha de Wushu, waving a new phase to this sportive practice.Downloads
