Can physical fitness tests measure health? A study based on conscripts of a military training school in SOROCABA - SP
Abstract
The Brazilian Army implements the Military Physical Training (MPT) all over the country having health as one of the targets. The effects are measured by the Physical Fitness Test (PFT), applied in the 12th and the 24th training weeks. The aims of our investigation were to verify the feasibility of applying these tests to the university students and analyze TFM effects. Data of the PFT applied to forty conscripts of a military training school in Sorocaba-SP were verified retroanalytically by Wilcoxon’s test for paired samples and by Spearman’s coefficient. The results showed significant differences in all tests and the duplication of efforts to measure the same variable but no evidence of the possibility to measure health through these tests was found.Downloads
