Abstract
The purpose of this work was to analyse the effects of chronic alcohol ingestion and exercise in the body mass, food consumption and liquid intake in Wistar rats. Twenty rats were divided into two groups: the alcoholic group received sugarcane beverage (30%, v/v) and the non alcoholic one receveid tap water, during 120 days. After alcohol ingestion period, each group was subdivided into trained and untrained animals. The trained animals did swimming exercise for 8 weeks. During alcool intake period, alcoholic animals showed decreased body weight gain, reduced chow consumption and increased liquid intake. After alcool intake period, only alcoholized sedentary animals increased body weight. Both alcoholized groups decreased food comsuption and it was not observed differences in liquid intake among all groups. The results suggest that chronic alcohol intake provokes a metabolic desequilibrium and exercises are usefull in controling body mass during recovery period. However, this exercise protocol did not alter animal diet habits.Downloads
