Abstract

The objective of this study was to analyze the chances of the most mature individuals to present better results on physical fitness tests. 221 boys were analyzed, age ranging from 12 through 16 years, involved in organized sports were analyzed. Their sexual maturation level was classified as from the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th stages, according to Tanner’s method. Physical capacities analyzed were: isometric strength, explosive strength, anaerobic power and cardiorespiratory fitness. A descriptive analysis and binary logistic regression with a confidence interval of 95% and a p<0.05 was used. The results have indicated that individuals from stages 3 and 4 demonstrated higher chances of presenting greater manual strength, speed and absolute VO2max. Also, the individuals from stage 4 have demonstrated more chances to present greater explosive strength. Thus, when comparing individuals from different maturational levels, chances are that the most mature ones will present superior physical capacity performance.
