Abstract

The descriptive study aimed to analyze the research groups affiliated to CNPq’s Research Groups Directory, using the search word ‘gymnastics’ to limit and find these groups, as well as the scientific production of their leaders. Two complementary searches were developed to attain the proposed objective: one in the above referred Directory and the other in the Lattes Platform. The results indicate the existence of 30 groups, certified by their institutions, mostly members of the Health Sciences/Physical Education area. The institutions where the registered groups are housed are predominantly located in the South and Southeast regions of Brazil, and the scientific production of the leaders in the last three years shows significant efforts to publish their research, although there is much to be done. It is believed that these results show the ‘state of the art or knowledge’ of the groups that study gymnastics in Brazil.
