Abstract

Water quality has been a growing concern, mainly due to the appearance of emerging contaminants in drinking water, which has research on different technologies and processes for its treatment. Therefore, the purpose of this work was to analyze the adsorption of the tetracycline, using an expanded polyurethane matrix with activated carbon obtained from banana peel. The activated carbon was obtained by the chemical and physical process and the matrix was developed with different percentages of the coal. With the matrices, an adsorption test was performed with different concentrations of tetracycline (10 mg/L and 30 mg/L). Through the results, it was obtained a tetracycline removal efficiency of 22.9% for the concentration of 10 m /L and 21.4% for the concentration of 30 mg/L for the matrix of 10% of coal. An analysis of the efficiency of activated carbon was carried out, and an efficiency of approximately 98% was obtained for both studied tetracycline concentrations. Although the matrix does not present satisfactory results in adsorption, the banana peel proved to be a good way of obtaining alternative activated carbon, using an industrial residue for adsorption of drugs, such as tetracycline.
