The aim of this analysis is to study the skin morphology of the Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) from Caunesp (Unesp-Jaboticabal). Samples of the skin of the middle dorsal region were collected, fixed in Bouin for 36 hours, put in paraffin, cut in 5 μm thickness and coloured with haematoxylin-eosin technique. Sections were analysed by light microscope, selected and photographed in Axiophot-Zeiss photomicroscopy. Epidermis with mucous cells and dermis made of loose (superficial) and dense (deep) conjunctive tissue were observed. In the deep more external layer, or rather, in the deep dermis, horizontal and vertical (perpendicular to the skin surface) collagen fibers were found, while in the internal layer compact and thick horizontal fibers were present.Downloads
