Abstract

The present work aims to discuss the teaching of the mother tongue from the perspective of bilingualism (Guarani-Portuguese) in Tekoa Tapixi (Lebre Village) located in the Terra Indígena Rio das Cobras in Nova Laranjeiras/PR. The study was conducted through a literature review, focusing on authors who address the topic. Next, we analyzed the Pedagogical Political Project of the State Indigenous School Carlos Alberto Cabreira Machado located in Tekoa Tapixi, and finally, we conducted interviews with three teachers of the mother tongue at the aforementioned school. Ultimately, we realized the need to consider more bilingual practices and materials that encourage the use of the mother tongue as the primary language in the daily life of the indigenous school.
