History of the Journal
The choice of name carries within it the germ of its essence, which is the struggle in favor of quality and universal education. The name of the journal refers to what has become known as the “April 29 Massacre”, which took place in 2015 in the state of Paraná, when teachers took the lead in the fight against the dismantling of state civil servants' pensions. In front of the Legislative Assembly in Curitiba, the teachers were attacked with tear gas bombs, rubber bullets and batons from soldiers mounted on horses. The result was a large number of injured victims of the violence and truculence of the police at the behest of the state government. The event brought up the memory of August 30, 1988, when a similar event happened to teachers in the same city, in almost identical circumstances. All this painful memory, written and rewritten in the heat of events, should be raw material for us as historians to take a critical look at the past in order to understand how the events of the present are shaping up. And a reminder that, in our professional career as teachers, we must strive to build a society in which dialog prevails over force. Our journal was born out of the desire for the most diverse voices to be amplified through our pages. With space for publications by renowned PhDs, we have not forgotten to also provide the first access to many colleagues who are starting their research, since all of us who have walked this path know how difficult it is to find acceptance in the area. We were born with the idea of being not only a gateway for postgraduate students in the field of History, but also a point of reference for researchers in the various areas of the humanities.

Our visual identity was inspired by this photograph: in the midst of the horrors of April 29th in Curitiba, this teacher, in a symbolic gesture, tried to hand a flower to the police officers who carried out the operation against the teachers. Ignored and reprimanded, she was removed from the scene. However, she continued the gesture, offering the flower through the grille. The image was republished in the media and this specific record, whose rights were ceded by the author of the photograph, was made by Arnaldo Martin Szlachta Junior, who is a history professor and a graduate of the UEM Postgraduate Program in History (PPH - UEM).

Our logo is inspired by this symbol of resistance, by the love and tenderness of the teacher. The design also features a carnation, a reminder of the Carnation Revolution of 1975.
