“Gênero” e “Ideologia de Gênero” na internet

Abstract

This article presents the results of a research study developed within the scope of the project “Portal Clio HD: a collection of sources and digital objects for teaching and research in History,” which aimed to analyze online press reports published between 2019 and 2022 on the terms "gender" and "gender ideology." The investigation sought to understand the circulation of these terms in digital media, especially in light of the rise of intolerant discourses regarding gender diversity during the analyzed period. Given a context where such discourses have become increasingly frequent and influential, understanding their origins, dynamics, and impacts on the educational field is essential. The study employed Digital History methodologies, interpreting the data through both qualitative and quantitative approaches, with the support of the open-source software Voyant Tools. The results indicated that the term "gender ideology" was widely instrumentalized by far-right ultraconservative groups to delegitimize discussions on gender and sexuality. Meanwhile, the concept of "gender" was predominantly associated with femininity and the educational context, alongside a marked polarization in public debate. The study concludes that these strategies reinforce conservative norms, hindering progress toward equality and inclusion in gender relations.
