Abstract

This paper presents an analytical solution for a model of the soybean oil extraction using horizontal belt extractors. The partial differential equations of the chosen model describe the mass transfer in the bed, as well as each stage of the extraction process in the belt extractors. The general analytical solution was obtained using a symbolic mathematic package. Results showed that this solution does not satisfy all boundary and initial conditions of the model. A simplification of the analyzed system and the use of some boundary conditions with practical meaning were the basis for obtaining a particular solution of the extraction process in belt extractors. The analytical solutions provide some clear advantages in the comprehension of the behavior of the extractor.

possui graduação em Engenharia Quí­mica pela Universidade Estadual de Maringá (1986), mestrado em Engenharia Quí­mica pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas (1989) e doutorado em Engenharia Quí­mica pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas (1994). Entre 2005 e 2007 realizou pós-doutorado em Engenharia Quí­mica na Universidade de Alicante - Espanha. Atualmente é professor associado da Universidade Estadual de Maringá.
