Abstract

The soil resistance to root penetration (SPR) can limit growth and productivity of plants. This work was carried out in Experimental Farm of Coamo, in Campo Mourão, state of Paraná, Brazil, to evaluate SPR of a Haplortox cultivated under no-tillage in ten years with rotation (wheat/oat/mayze/soybean) and succession (wheat/soybean) crops. SPR was determined with a penetrometer, at each 0,05 m to a depth of 0,30 m, with soil water content near the field capacity (FC). For the depth from 0,0 to 0,10 m, the treatment with crops succession of cultures presented smaller values of SPR comparatively to rotation of cultures. This can be attributed to the fact that in the superficial layer, in function of the different spacings among-lines, these caused smaller dryer cycles and humidity with consequent smaller SPR for the succession of cultures in this depth. Values of SPR considered as critics to the growth of plants (larger than 2 MPa) were observed mainly in depth from 0,15 to 0,20 m, for treatment succession of cultures. This result can be due to presence of a foot-of-plow result from previous tilts of introduction in experimental area. The treatment with crop rotation presented smaller values of SPR in this depth, only reaching the critical limit for 0,15 m. such a result is due to the positive effect of the radical system of crops used in treatment with rotation, mainly oat, reducing soil compactness. In the depth from 0,20 to 0,30 m the treatment with.
