Abstract

The subsurface drip irrigation and mulch are modern techniques in melon irrigation that try to reduce water consume. However, there are few studies about it, since it is difficult to evaluate melon's quantitative and qualitative characteristics. The aim of this work is to study such characteristics on melons under subsurface drip irrigation and mulch in clayey soil. The effects of mulch on agronomic parameters were more evident than those of subsurface drip irrigation. Mulch increased fruit weight, productivity, longitudinal and transversal diameter, pulp thickness and soluble solid content, besides providing crop's precocious growth.

Author Biography

Rodrigo Otávio Câmara Monteiro, EAALLQ

natural de Fortaleza-CE, possui graduação em Agronomia pela Universidade Federal do Ceará (2002), mestrado em Irrigação e Drenagem pela Universidade Federal do Ceará (2004) e Doutorado em Irrigação e Drenagem pela ESALQ-USP (2007). Atualmente é Professor de Hidráulica, Hidrologia, Irrigação e Drenagem na Universidade Estadual de Goiás. Tem experiência na área de Agronomia, com ênfase em Engenharia de Irrigação, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: Otimização Econômica do Uso da Ãgua e Nutrientes, Energia na Agricultura e Irrigação Pressurizada. Realizou estágio de Doutorado no Land, Air and Water Resources Department, da University of California, Davis, sob a orientação do Prof. Jan W. Hopmans. Realizou também estágio de Doutorado na Faculty for Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, na Universität Rostock, em Rostock, Alemanha, sob orientação do Prof. Bernd Lennartz Currículo Lattes
