Abstract

The objective of the this work was to study the effect of postharvest application of calcium chloride, as well as the use of two types of fungicides on fig fruits conservation. The experiment was developed at the Teaching, Research and Extension Farm and at the Biotechnology Laboratory of the University State of São Paulo “Júlio de Mesquita Filho” – campus of Ilha Solteira, São Paulo State. The fruits were treated with the fungicides at the field and, after the harvest, they were submerged in calcium chloride solutions at the concentrations of 2 and 4%, for 15 minutes. The fruits were evaluated at the moment of the harvest and during the refrigerated storage, when it was observed: fruit peel cracking, fruit weight, total soluble solids content, total titratable acidity, ratio, pulp firmness, fruit peel wrinkling and rotten fruits. The application of calcium chloride at the concentration of 4%, associated to the use of the fungicide Mancozeb, reduced the loss of weight of the fruits likewise the fruit peel cracking and wrinkling, and it increased pulp firmness. There were no effects of postharvest application of calcium chloride on total soluble solids content, total titratable acidity, ratio and number of rotten fruits.
