Abstract
This article describes the cotton production and utilization in the state of Paraná from 1970 to 1999 and the textile pole in Maringá region, northern Paraná State, Brazil. This study was based on several primary sources and many publications. In the early 1980s textile industries in Paraná focused on cotton cleaning, even though local production had the capacity to continue the manufacturing of cotton. By the mid 1980s some spinning industries were established and supported by agro-industry cooperatives. Cotton production started to decrease after 1996, decreasing the needs of the spinning industries. This decrease of cotton as a primary resource interrupted the chain of industrialization. The State of Paraná, which traditionally used to export cotton, started to import it in the mid 1990s.Downloads
