Abstract
This study analyzes the discourse on poli tical and social issues in Brazil based on Rui Barbosa’s platform of govern presented in 1919, aiming to contribute to the knowledge on the changes occurring in the Brazilian society at that time, mainly the ones concerning educational matters. The subject though cannot be treated separately from its original social context. Rui Barbosa’s propositions, his work and ideas, should be understood as a result of his attitude in fighting in face of the transformations that marked the Brazilian society during its industrialization process. Rui Barbosa, during his presidential campaign, dealt with some problems, making education evident as a subject that, to his understanding, should go through some changes in order to suit the new necessities of the Brazilian society.Downloads
