Abstract

Current research endeavors to answer the following question: Is prescriptive language a performative one? If the answer is positive, what is the status of the action in the speaker or in the interlocutor? J. L. Austin’s How to do things with words and R. M. Hare’s The language of morals and Moral thinking: Its levels, method, and point, will be employed to answer these issues. The upheld hypothesis claims that prescriptive language is a way of action in the world.
