Literature and society: Barbarism in the world of Augusto Matraga due to the absence of a legitimate and democratic State - DOI: 10.4025/actascihumansoc.v27i2.201
Abstract
This article presents a study of possibilities that the Literature offers to expand the knowledge of determined historical and social contexts produced by the Social Sciences. The conclusion shows that this possibility becomes real when the writer resorts to analyses done by the Social Sciences in order to operate with typical circumstances, typical characters and typical social interactions of the context that is going to serve as scenery for the author’s work. The context chosen for this study was Brazil's backcountry in the period so called Oligarchical Republic, dating back to the new regime proclamation until the 1930s revolution; and the work selected is A hora e a vez de Augusto Matraga, by Guimarães Rosa.Downloads
