Abstract

This article presents a study of possibilities that the Literature offers to expand the knowledge of determined historical and social contexts produced by the Social Sciences. The conclusion shows that this possibility becomes real when the writer resorts to analyses done by the Social Sciences in order to operate with typical circumstances, typical characters and typical social interactions of the context that is going to serve as scenery for the author’s work. The context chosen for this study was Brazil's backcountry in the period so called Oligarchical Republic, dating back to the new regime proclamation until the 1930s revolution; and the work selected is A hora e a vez de Augusto Matraga, by Guimarães Rosa.

Possui graduação em Filosofia pela Universidade de São Paulo (1988) , graduação em Sociologia pela Universidade de São Paulo (1983) , graduação em Jornalismo pela Universidade de São Paulo (1978) , mestrado em Ciência Política pela Universidade de São Paulo (1994) e doutorado em Ciência Política pela Universidade de São Paulo (1998) . Atualmente é Professor Adjunto da Universidade Estadual de Maringá. Tem experiência na área de Ciência Política.
