Abstract
Based on a critical reading of The Death of the Author (A Morte do Autor) and From Work to Text (Da Obra ao Texto) , both by Roland Barthes, a study on the construction of the notions: author, reader and text is developed. Such construction, based on dichotomies, gives the text, the author and the reader important social and political functions.
