Abstract

The institutional dependence of the cultural industry in its growth is investigated through an analysis of the cinema as a specific sector of the cultural industry. The influence of social and economic factors on the supply of the Brazilian film market is discussed. Collected data analyze the impact of social and cultural capital on the supply of movie theaters of the film industry in the Brazilian states. Results show that institutional factors are important to define the national film supply and therefore the implementation of public policies for the sector is viable from the social and economic points of view.
