Abstract

The present article intends to explore the vector indicators of narrative subjectivity present in the Saramaguian’s novel The year of the death of Ricardo Reis, published in 1984. It is assumed that the ‘windows of focalization’ and/or ‘windows of perception’ are openings through which the reader accesses the subjectivity of the character in a vertical movement. That is, the focusing and perceptual process generally are not isolated, they give access to increasing amounts of ‘conceptuality’, which is nothing more than the scalar progression of the critical aspects of focalization and orienting perception of a narrative text.
