In-Between of Me: a borderline situation on the Augusto dos Anjos’ poetry
Abstract
Augusto dos Anjos’s poetry belongs to the last voices of traditional lyricism inBrazil, and thus far from ruptures brought about by Vanguardism or Modernism. Although Darwinism is only superficial, Eschatology is deep and tries to destroy the scientific approach and structure. The grotesque supports anti-lyricism coupled to transcendental philosophy. Since it is immersed in gnosiologic dualism, the literary work Eu [Me] (1912) has a dark physiognomy, which debates Art Nouveau in Augusto dos Anjos’s poetics. These aspects foreground a multi-meaning in-betweenness.
