Abstract
The aim of this text is to make a brief literature review of the various definitions of ‘speech community’ to Sociolinguistics. This concept arises from the need of analyzing the several linguistic variants used by individuals from certain place. The notion of speech community is the unit of study of Sociolinguistics, but some linguists realized that it is too broad to their purposes, which takes to restriction of this concept into two levels: the social network and the practice community concepts.Downloads
