DESDOBRAMENTOS DA SÍNDROME PRÉ-MENSTRUAL SOBRE A SAÚDE MENTAL E O SONO : UMA REVISÃO SISTEMÁTICA
Abstract
Objective: Analyze, by means of a systematic review, whether aspects such as sleep deprivation, stress, and anxiety are related to premenstrual syndrome.
Methodology: This is a Systematic Review that investigated the Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS) databases. The Health Sciences Descriptors that were used were “PMS”, “sleep deprivation”, “anxiety”, “stress” and “menstrual cycle”, which were associated with the boolean operator "AND".
Results: The searches resulted in 369 articles, of which 21 were used for the composition of the study.
Discussion: It was evident that sleep deprivation, stress and anxiety are related to PMS. In addition, studies were found pointing out that everyday aspects (work and studies), nutritional conditions and other neurological disorders (such as depression and binge eating) affect and can be affected by premenstrual syndrome symptoms. Promising treatments for the symptomatology of PMS were also the focus of several articles found, which used different therapies.
Conclusion: The premenstrual syndrome is associated with several factors, but this theme has numerous controversies and divergent scientific interests, which impacts the quantity and quality of studies available on the female reproductive cycle and its developments.
