ORGANIZAÇÃO DA INDÚSTRIA BRASILEIRA DE PAPEL E CELULOSE: REFLEXÕES À LUZ DA NOVA ECONOMIA INSTITUCIONAL
Abstract
The general objective of this work was to analyze, in the light of the New Institutional Economics (NEI), the organizational and institutional arrangements evidenced for obtaining the raw material of the Brazilian pulp and paper industry. Specifically, it is intended to: contextualize, in the light of the NEI, organizations and institutions; and describe the information reported by Brazilian pulp and paper companies about their organizational and institutional arrangements in the raw material supply stage. For that, bibliographic and documentary procedures were used, in a qualitative approach, with descriptive objectives. Companies in the aforementioned sector listed on B3, the main stock exchange in Brazil, were surveyed. Data were collected from information published by companies on their websites and annual or sustainability reports. Considering the interrelation between organizations and institutions, seeking economic performance and adapting to environmental pressures, it is tolerated that most of the raw material comes from its own structure, corresponding to hierarchy. Only Klabin keeps contracts with external suppliers. In any case, through the lens of the NEI, the definition of the best structure involves a qualitative analysis that goes beyond the simple autonomous choice, and considers the complex and dynamic institutional environment.
