This research had the purpose to unveil the sense of being an adolescent suffering from a chronic disease. It is a qualitative study, of phenomenological theoretical reference, based on the thought of Martin Heidegger. The subjects were 14 adolescents, in the age group between 12 and 18 years, assisted in the ambulatory of the Nucleus of de Studies of the Adolescent’s Health at the University Hospital Pedro Ernesto. After obtaining the statements the units of significance were formed, being interpreted in accordance with the heideggerian hermeneutics. The concepts evidenced were: the being-there, the being-with, the facticity, the impersonality, the talking, and the temporality. With the study, we managed to understand the adolescents suffering from a chronic disease taking into consideration their singularities and peculiarities in order to favor them a better quality of life.
