Journal History
Ciência, Cuidado e Saúde is an electronic journal, open acess, published in a rolling pass format. It was created in July 2002, as the official scientific dissemination body of the Nursing Department of the Universidade Estadual de Maringá. Its mission is to promote the dissemination of scientific and technical knowledge in health and nursing, through the deliberated publication of articles, aimed at contributing to the improvement of the profession in its theoretical and practical aspects.
Ciência, Cuidado e Saúde (ISSN online 1984-7513) is indexed in Latindex, CUIDEN. BIREME and BDENF and in the LILACS, DOAJ, REDALYC and CINAHL databases. It is registered in the Portal de Periodicos Capes (Capes Journal Portal), Portal Diadorim and Sumários.org. Its abbreviated title to be used in references, footnotes and bibliographical references and subtitles is: Cienc Cuid Saude.
Focus and Scope
Ciência, Cuidado e Saúde is an online journal aimed at disseminating the technical-scientific production related to the health area and, in special, nursing.
It is edited and published in a rolling pass process, by the Nursing Graduate Program and Nursing Department at the Universidade Estadual de Maringá.

Editorial Policy
Contributions in Portuguese, English and Spanish will be accepted, in the following formats: Editorial, Original articles, Experience report, Reflection articles and Review articles.
The journal is standardized following the “Uniform requirements for manuscripts submitted to biomedical journals” (Vancouver Style), available at http: www.icmje.org/.
In line with the recommendations on Open Science, Ciência, Cuidado e Saúde accepts for evaluation manuscripts previously available in trusted preprint repositories and supports the open science policy by depositing data in national repository banks (Open Data).
Peer-Review Process
The peer-review process uses the blind review system, preserving the identity of authors and consultants. The authors’ identification will be informed to the Editorial Board only in the final evaluation phase.
However, in line with the open science movement, Ciência, Cuidado e Saúde offers the option of opening the peer-review process of the manuscripts. In this way, authors and reviewers will be able to indicate whether they agree with this option at the time of submission/review.

Open Access Policy
Ciência Cuidado e Saúde offers free access to its content, following the principle that making scientific knowledge freely available to the public provides greater democratization of knowledge.
Open access means free availability on the Internet, permitting users to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search or link the full text of these articles, crawl them for indexing, use them as input data software programs, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without financial, legal, or technical barriers.
All content of the journal, except where identified, is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International, non-commercial license with no derivative work.
The journal uses as a basis for the transfer of rights, the Creative Commons attribution 3.0 license for open access journals, Open Archives Initiative (OAI), green road category.
Integrity in Scientific Dissemination
Ciência Cuidado e Saúde follows ethical conduct and the precepts of integrity in scientific publication. Editorial practice in the case of scientific misconduct (plagiarism, self-plagiarism, falsification or fabrication of data, misuse of references or citations, duplication of publication, undisclosed conflicts of interest, authorship dispute, among others) will follow the procedures and guidelines of the Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) http://publicationethics.org/, as well as the guidelines of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors, http://www.icmje.org
It adopts similarity tracking tools and authors must be aware of the implications related to the provisions of the Penal Code (Article 184) and the Copyright Law (Art. 7, the third paragraph of Law No. 9,610, of February 19th, 1998 See Law No. 12,853, of 2013). We use the Copy Spider® tool in submissions (https://copyspider.com.br/main/). In the final version, before publication, verification of the text’s authenticity is performed using the CrossRef Similarity Check - iThenticate software. The Editorial Board of Ciência, Cuidado e Saúde discusses suspected cases of harm to scientific integrity and takes the necessary decisions, such as: embargoes and suspension of publishing in the journal for a period determined by the Editorial Board. The authors will be immediately informed of all stages of this process.
When Ciência, Cuidado e Saúde receives the manuscript submitted by the author, it is analyzed by means of an anti-plagiarism software program. After analysis and detection of plagiarism of up to 10%, indicated by the software, the Editorial Board will ask the author to rewrite it and quote the original source. If plagiarism is extended from 20% more than the stipulated minimum, the manuscript will be rejected and both the authors and their institutions will be notified. If plagiarism is detected in the peer review process, in the review stages or by the editors, the aforementioned measures will also be applied. When plagiarism is detected after publication of the article, Ciência, Cuidado e Saúde will notify and publish the committed infraction in an Editor's Note in the same edition in which the manuscript was published.
Archiving
The documents of published articles will be archived for five years, counting from their publication, and canceled or refused manuscripts will not be archived.
Ciência, Cuidado e Saúde uses the LOCKSS system to create a file system distributed among participating libraries and allows them to create permanent journal files for conservation and recovery.
