Abstract
The labor room, the delivery room and the recovery room (LDR) consists of an only environment for the care of pregnant women in the three periods of a humanized and safe delivery for both mother and child. The study evaluated the physical infrastructure, material resources, equipment and assistance given in the LDR in accordance with Board Resolution-DRC 36/2008 of the National Agency of Sanitary Surveillance-ANVISA. This is a quantitative, retrospective study in an Obstetric Center (OB) of the University Hospital in the countryside of São Paulo. A total of 135 records of pregnant women admitted at LDR from 08/12/2008 to 30/04/2009 were evaluated. Data collection was performed through instruments created specifically for the study. Analysis was performed by the Statistical Package for Social Sciences. Results showed that the physical infrastructure, materials and equipment are in accordance with the resolution. The service was rated as good from the analysis of indicators: presence of a companion, use of non-pharmacological methods of pain relief, breast feeding and mother-child immediate contact after delivery. Despite the good assistance, attention is recommended to the health team regarding mother’s stay in the LDR room during the three periods of childbirth, as well as for the breastfeeding, and the immediate newborn and mother contact, once this OB will have only LDR rooms.
