The source for data collection was protocols recorded between 2003 and 2008. Data collection was held from August, 2009 to February 2010 by means of a structured instrument, and descriptive statistics was used for their analysis. The obtained results enabled to evidence that there was a yearly progressive increase in the projects forwarded to be reviewed, with the highest prevalence between 2007 and 2008; as for the field of knowledge, most projects are from the health area, nursing standing out; as for the project status after assessment, most of them did not meet the requirements and the main factor for that was related to the elaboration of the informed consent form. Thus, it deems necessary that Ethics Boards as well as the institutions where research studies are developed, to elaborate qualification actions towards researchers, aiming the elaboration of structurally ethical projects.
