Abstract

The objective of this study was to envision, in the national scientific production of theses and dissertations, how the nurses’ working process work in prenatal care is being organized, and what are the difficulties faced by these workers to provide assistance. The methodology used was an integrative review. Data collection was carried out in the Brazilian Library of Theses and Dissertations, in June 2011. The descriptors used were: pre-natal care and Nursing. After reading, 4 theses and 7 dissertations were selected. From them, lately, considering the purpose of this study, only 3 theses and 4 dissertations were used. Data analysis was carried out using thematic analysis. After reading the texts, formulating hypotheses, material exploration and interpretation of results the theme was classified into two categories: “Organizational structure of the nursing work process” and “Organizational working process of the nurse”. With this integrative review it was possible to conclude that the health institutions are not structurally prepared for the implementation of prenatal care, but in spite of it nurses do carry it out in spaces that are available.
