Abstract

In 1994, the University Hospital of Londrina (UHL) implemented a quality program named QualisaHUde. At the time, the nursing director along with the head of the nursing education and training department directed the implementation of this program, given that the quality department was not operating. The aim of this paper is to describe the strategies and work process involved in the implementation of this quality program. Descriptive study conducted in a University Hospital with 294 beds, all available for Public Health System patients. There is high technology equipment being used in an old building structure with many adaptations. The services restructured the work process using Quality Principle tools. The most executed were Plan, Do, Check, Action and “5 S” considering the simplicity and prompt use. The implementation of the quality program highlighted the identification and discussion of the work process while they were taking place. However, this process requires constant attention of the team over their performance. Therefore, all team members must be committed to reach the main goals of delivering care with quality and safety without raising or causing conflicts within the teams.
