Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the perception of graduate students from the Nursing Course of the State University of Londrina, State of Paraná, who graduated in the traditional curriculum, as for the contribution of the course to the development of competences that are necessary for the professional practice. It is a descriptive-quantitative study. A questionnaire was sent by mail to 88 graduate students from which 55 of them returned from January to March 2000. The data were analyzed statistically in the SPSS program and were presented in the form of tables and figures. The students contributed a great deal to the development of 10 out of 13 listed competences and the greatest contributions were to perform using the Nursing process; to perform respecting ethic and legal principles of the profession and perform in the Nursing assistance. The least important contributions were related to performing in the teaching of Nursing; carrying out scientific research and taking part of class entities. In the opinion of the graduates, it was concluded that the course has contributed in a greater scale to the development of the several competencies needed for the professional practice. The study presented important data for the implementation of the integrated curriculum in the Nursing course in this Institution.
