Abstract
This study aims to describe the experience of families of individuals with mental disorders, highlighting the changes occurred when the patient is having a crisis. This exploratory, descriptive qualitative analysis was carried out in February 2009. A population was composed of five families of individuals with mental disorders assisted at Psychosocial Care Center I (PCC) in a small city of Parana. We use the unstructured interview which was recorded as a form of data collection and thematic content analysis as a technique to analyze the data. Given this two themes emerged: changing the family routine: the difficulties being revealed in the midst of suffering and, faith and hope and support to continue living. We observed that families have many difficulties in living with a relative with mental disorder. Among them there is the lack of proper management of the crisis. PCC is a center that helps individuals with mental disorder that before its assistance used to present aggressive behavior and difficulties in relationship. The families keep their faith and hope as allies in their times of difficulties and as a means of relieving pain and suffering.Downloads
