Abstract
In view of the therapeutic effects of the sun, this study aimed to evaluate the relevance of sunbath as a basic care in the prevention and treatment of dermatitis peristoma, and discuss the challenges faced by patients in implementing this ostomy care. Convergent Research-Assistance with 17 ostomy outpatients treated in the municipality of Campos dos Goytacazes - RJ. The ethical aspects were met. An identification form for the ostomate, two semi structured interviews and a participant observation script were used to co-produce the data. Data were analyzed and interpreted based on the triangulation of the findings. Thus, the categorization process started based on thematic content analysis. The sunbath revealed itself as a basic care in the prevention and treatment of dermatitis peristoma, being considered as an important intervention in the process of maintaining the stoma. There were challenges faced by patients in the implementation of sunbathing: the lack of privacy and time for sunbathing. Nursing has a primary role in mediating this fundamental care and may engage in the reflective awareness process with the patients.
