Abstract

This is a documentary research that examined the incorporation of the principle of integrality at teaching plans of undergraduate courses in nursing. The study involved eight public institutions of southeastern and northeastern of Brazil. Data were collected from teaching plans and analyzed from the perspective of integrality. Most of institutions developed the courses under the aegis of the minimum curriculum. The contents of child health were offered between the 4th and 6th semester in disciplines of child’s health and women's health and they were based in the policies and programs of child health care. It found wide variation in theoretical and practical course program. Lectures and theoretical-practical activities in primary care, hospitals, daycare centers and home care were the teaching strategies used. It is concluded that the teaching of child health incorporates the principle of integrality in the aspects proposed in the teaching plans of the undergraduate courses in nursing.
