Abstract
This study aims to verify the causes of students’ dropouts in the Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) and License Practical Nurse (LPN) courses associated to the Nursing Workers Credentialing Project (Profae) in Paraná State. Data was collected through telephone interviews and processed by the Epi Info software. From the 355 students identified as “dropouts” 66.5% of them were interviewed. Most of the dropouts students from the Certified Nurse Assistant course did not work in that area whilst the opposite occurred with the License Practical Nurse course evaded students. The reasons for the dropouts were: working hours’ incompatibility (19.1%), disliking the area (12.7%), family health problems (11.0%), personal health problems (10.2%) and pregnancy (8.5%). The supply of training professional programs directed to CNAs and LPNs does not guarantee the students’ attendance to the course even though they work in the nursing area.Downloads
