Abstract

The aim of this study was to understand the social representations of children’ educators about the care-education process, in an attempt to identify its relationship with health. According to the qualitative research approach, data were collected by semi-structured interviews carried out in a children’s education institution. Statements were organized according to the method of Collective Subject Speech. Educators represented care and education as inherent and indissociable, identifying opportunities for the prevention of diseases, early detection of alterations and development of some health promoting aspects. The participation of health professionals and family members in the actions developed in this institution was limited and professional care/education was represented as being higher than that of the family. This study is expected to support a critical-educational movement aimed at strengthening potentialities and making viable the overcoming of the limits verified, including permanent health-promoting, interdisciplinary and intersectional actions, in addition to the actual participation of the family in this process.
