Technology and nursing care for persons under hemodialysis procedures

Abstract

This study aims to facilitate spontaneous expression among persons undergoing hemodialysis procedures in regards to their life, health and treatment conditions. The study was conducted with six participants from an acquainted group undergoing hemodialysis, which met 13 times. Data was collected by using group discussion and was analyzed according to the Collective Subject Speech (CSS) technique. The findings indicated five themes: 1) the need to take part in an advocacy group 2) the right for preferential treatment at public institutions. 3) orientation for primary prevention. 4) hemodialysis is a terrifying experience. 5) the wait for a kidney donor. These findings suggest that nursing care should be extended beyond the mere operation of the dialysis machine.
