The management approach for professional versus satisfaction quality: a study with a nursing staff

Abstract
This almost experimental study aimed at focusing the satisfaction at work of an adult Intensive Care Unity (ICU) nursing staff. An intervention phase was inserted during the three moments of data collection. An Index of Work Satisfaction (IWS) questionnaire that pointed out the elements the staff were (un)satisfied about was used. During the first phase, using a taped interview, the suggestions for the staff satisfaction improvement were collected. Then, for the main suggested activities, proposals/activities for the staff satisfaction improvement were given. After that, a second data collection phase (post-intervention) was performed, which verified the effects of the interventions accomplished. In the end, the nurses’ IWS rose at 2.93, and that of the nursing auxiliaries at 0.8. Considering that the highest IWS value is 37, the numbers obtained indicate that both categories remained unsatisfied at work. Although the Institution had not used the Management Approach for Quality it was verified that its principles and actions can be used for the nursing staff management.Downloads
