Characteristics of the pedestrian victims traumatized in road accidents in Maringá - Paraná state

Abstract

This study had as objective analyzing the characteristics of pedestrian victims traumatized in road accidents within Maringá urban perimeter, in 1995. 186 pedestrian victims were studied of the data collected which included official reports, records of emergency care attendance, records of hospitalization and deaths. The results show the predominance of male victims, reaching mainly seniors and children. The data reveals a high percentage of hospitalization (45,6%) and a lethality of 11,3%. The most frequent kind of injuries were cuts and the body part most frequently injured was the head. Therefore, this work portrays the pedestrian victims vulnerability, indicating the urge to implement municipal actions aimed at the different aspects of these victims.

Dorotéia Fátima Pelissari de Paula Soares, UEM
possui graduação em Enfermagem e Obstetrícia pela Universidade Federal do Paraná (1982), mestrado em Saúde Coletiva pela Universidade Estadual de Londrina (1997) e doutorado em Saúde Coletiva pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas (2003). Atualmente é professor adjunto da Universidade Estadual de Maringá. Tem experiência na área de Saúde Coletiva, com ênfase em Estudos de Mortalidade e Morbidade, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: mortalidade, morbidade, sistemas de informação, causas externas, acidentes de trânsito Currículo Lattes
