Family and social reinsertion of the mentally ill: one experience share by the nurse

Abstract

This is a study that took perform April to July 1997, with the relatives of mentally ill patients in the city of Maringá. It had as goals to sharing the problems of social reinsertion of the mentally ill faced by their relatives and help them find the necessary subsides to reinsert the mentally ill in the community. the sample population was comprised by two families of mentally ill of the municipal public health system. The active observation was the method of data gathering used. The shared problems were dealt with, based on Travelbee’s principles of therapeutical relationships, according to the needs of each family. The results showed that the families are interested in keeping the mentally ill at home after hospital discharge but that they do not have condition for this.
