Iatrogenicity on nursing care during stay in intensive care unit: patients' fall

Abstract
The present study tried to explore and describe the magnitude of iatrogenic happenings related to patients' fall during their stay in Intensive Care Unit, using the Critical Incident Technique (CIT) as a guideline to our methodological procedures. The sample population was comprised by nursing professionals working in adult’s ICUs, in the cities of Londrina and Maringá. A total of 90 reports were obtained and, after being analyzed and divided into categories, led us to the following results as situations; the negative behaviors; the immediate consequences for the patient; characterization of the fall's type, the diagnosis and therapeutic interventions resulting from the fall, and for which the fall were communicated; also, were identified the consequences to the nursing professionals and the affective manifestations reported by them due to the patient's fall.Downloads
