Abstract
In this study, we sought to know the experiences of cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment and their families, with theoretical support of the Leininger Culture Care Theory, in order to obtain culturally harmonious care involving the participation of the nurse, clients and family members. It is a descriptive, exploratory and qualitative study, with three first time users of the service and their respective relatives, totaling six individuals. The systematization of the nursing assistance to the client in chemotherapy was applied through a half-structuralized interview, focusing the cultural approach, and the participant observation. It was observed that the undersupplied orientation to the clients and caregivers in the oncology unit generates stress, concern and unreliability regarding their health and treatment. Thus, we highlight that the performance of the professionals in the unit of chemotherapy and the systematization of the assistance with the cultural approach is of extreme importance to orient and elucidate questions regarding the treatment and its reactions, supplying adequate information to the individuals, relating the experiences and beliefs in health practices of the clients and their families, as a way to provide a qualified assistance of nursing to this unit.Downloads
