Abstract
This descriptive-exploratory study had the purpose to characterize the absenteeism extent and to classify the absences caused by illness among nursing professionals of the Hospital of Clinics of the Universidade Federal do Triângulo Mineiro. The sample was composed of professionals who had presented non predictable absences in the work. Data was collected from February to June, 2009, through survey in monthly reports and in the personal folders of these professionals. Subsequently, they were submitted to the descriptive statistic analysis. The results showed that from the 636 nursing professionals, 383 (58.92%) presented absenteeism. The category with most absences was the nursing technicians, female, between 30 and 39 years of age, working in the night shift and with employment connection. The main types of illness were the bone-muscle problems and of the conjunctive tissue. The unit of origin of greater percentile of non predictable absences occurred in the General Intensive Care Unit. It was concluded that is necessary a more extensive investigation on the meaning of the absenteeism in the view of the nursing professionals, in order to understand the predisposing factors and to establish measures to prevent illness.Downloads
