Objective: This study investigates the effects of the 2017 labor reform on the mitigation of labor judicializations and on the performance of labor courts, in addition to verifying, with originality, its effects on the generation of formal jobs and on the movement of the economy, considering regions and economic sectors.
Methodology: Documentary research was carried out in government sources and to the data a comparative qualitative analysis of time series between the years 2015 and 2020 was applied.
Results: The results show that, in general, there were positive effects in reducing the number of labor lawsuits in the post-reform period, but there is evidence to believe that in the short term there was no improvement in the performance indices of the labor courts.
Originality: The analysis of the 2017 labor reform on the performance of the labor courts is original, as no studies were found that analyzed the results of the new legislation on the performance of the labor judiciary. Thus, it has the novelty of presenting the consequences of the reform on public efficiency and procedural dynamics, considering regions and economic sectors.
Theoretical and practical contributions: The study contributes to the literature that investigates the relationship between changes in legislation and their interrelationship with public efficiency, while presenting implications for the managerial practice of the Brazilian judiciary, as it increases empirical evidence on the topic investigated.
