Abstract
Studies that seek to identify the motivational situation of students can contribute to understand and improveaspects related to the academic environment. This research has the objective of identifying and analyzingthe intrinsic and extrinsic factors that motivate and influence students in their choice and permanence inthe course of Accounting Sciences at Unimontes. In order to accomplish the study, Herzberg's Two Factor Theory was applied to the academic setting, which expound extrinsic and intrinsic factors. Themethodological strategies used were: descriptive survey, with an intentional sample; and a questionnairestructured to collect data from students, with open and closed questions. The mean tests indicate that themain factors for choosing the course were: intrinsic factors, new knowledge and experiences; among theextrinsic factors, improved salaries and career upgrade are the main reasons for choosing the course. Some of the reasons for concluding the course were: among intrinsic factors, the interaction betweenstudents and teachers and the challenge of learning; among extrinsic factors, the possibility of enteringthe labor market. The implications of the influences of these factors on students are relevant for highereducation institutions and course coordinators.Downloads
