Abstract
This paper aims to discuss how the content of cartographic scale is worked in the classroom, in the discipline of Geography, considering the difficulties identified in the teaching-learning process. For the contents worked in the discipline of Geography seek to contribute so that the student understands the organization of the space and to see its role in the society that they occupy and transform and the cartographic language plays an important role in this process. For this, the qualitative research was developed methodologically through a survey of theoretical contributions, followed by the verification of two didactic books, the evaluation of questionnaires answered by Geography teachers and finally the analysis of the results. Thus it was possible to verify that the textbooks present only the conceptualization of cartographic scales, not providing a practical and significant application. This practice, according to the interviewees is one of the difficulties of the students, to apply the concept of cartographic scales. Thus, it is necessary to create and use other resources and instruments that can contribute to a significant teaching of cartographic scales, through its importance within Geography.
