Abstract

This paper aim to investigate the representations of the teachers role present in the journals of the first Complementary School of Caxias do Sul/RS, inaugurated in 1930, to discusses speeches about teachers role and the contribution of these speeches to the construction of teachers identity. The analysis of the texts reveled a strongly positivistic nature, being present assumptions of the New School movement, as well as civic discourse and sanitarian discourse, and representations that related teaching and sacred mission, point also to the design of a female locus. The paper was conclude with a discussion such representations and pointing the importance of this speeches in the construction of teachers identity and practices.
