School and civilization on the Tibagi's Sertão: The first public schools of Londrina
Abstract
This paper analyzes the construction of the first public schools from Londrina, on Paraná, in the first half of the 20th century. Our objective is to analyze the connection between the changes in the school building, the pedagogical changes and the search for progress. For that, we will use the concept of representation, seeking to understand the symbolic importance of the school architecture. Through the information found it's possible to comprehend that the first scholar group represents the materialization of the modernity intended at the time. The Art Déco architectonic style, common at the time, with its geometric forms, shows the desire for rationality, also present in the pedagogical thinking at the time. However, it was noticed contraditions between the speech that defended the progress and the civilization through school and the real conditions of the school space. At the same time, it was concluded that the constitution of the school building happen on the tension limits between tendencies that change the scholar context and those that persist, although the changes through time.Downloads
