Open Access
This journal follows the Open Access model, allowing virtual access, without restriction (including financial restrictions), to all scientific texts published by the journal.
Open access is the condition in which the copyright holder of an academic work grants usage rights to third parties through an open license (Creative Commons Attribution, CC-BY), allowing immediate free access to the work and authorizing any user to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of articles, track them for indexing, pass them as data to software, or use them for any other lawful purpose.
Compliance with Open Science
This journal follows the Gold Open Access model and is seeking alignment with the requirements of the open science modus operandi. The Open Science movement proposes guidelines for shared, collaborative, and public scientific practice. Psicologia em Estudo accepts evaluation of manuscripts deposited exclusively in the SciELO Preprints server; requires citation, referencing, and declaration of research data; and promotes informed peer review provided that reviewers and authors agree.
At the time of submission, authors must complete and attach the Open Science Compliance Form, informing: (a) whether the manuscript is a preprint and, if so, its location; (b) whether data and other materials underlying the manuscript text are properly cited and referenced; and (c) whether they accept open options in the peer review process.
Publication Ethics
At the time of submission, the author must declare that all ethical guidelines concerning the integrity of the scientific activities carried out during the research have been respected, as well as inform sources of funding, such as research agencies. If applicable, the author must declare that the ethical principles were submitted to the ethics committee of their institution and approved by it – thus the CAAE number is mandatory for national research. For researchers abroad, provide an equivalent document. Compliance with good research ethics practices is the sole responsibility of the author.
Psicologia em Estudo is supported by: the principles of the SciELO Codes of Ethics, present in the “Guide of Good Practices for Strengthening Ethics in Scientific Publication”; the “Principles of Transparency and Good Practices in Scholarly Publishing” recommended by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE); the principles of the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ); and the principles of the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association (OASPA).
For research conducted in a virtual environment, the document of CONEP – National Research Ethics Commission is taken as reference. For researchers abroad, consult an equivalent document.

EDITORIAL POLICY
Preprints
The journal Psicologia em Estudo accepts the publication of articles on the SciELO Preprints server. Authors must disclose details of the preprint posting, including DOI and licensing terms, upon submission of the manuscript or at any other point during the editorial process of this journal.
Peer review process
To ensure that the editorial process of the text to be submitted is efficient, it is important that, before being sent to the Journal, some steps are observed by the authors:• Carefully review the text regarding the Journal’s guidelines, correctness of Portuguese language or another language, and the items that must compose the submission correspondence.• Strictly follow the steps below in detail, knowing that they will ensure a good presentation of your work.
The received texts will initially be evaluated by the Executive Team and Editorial Board. If they comply with the publication standards, the scope of the journal, and are considered potentially publishable by Psicologia em Estudo, they will be forwarded to members of the Scientific Board ad hoc for review. This stage of the editing process comprises the preliminary evaluation of the article and, subsequently, the evaluation by reviewers. Reviewers’ opinions include three possibilities: a) full acceptance; b) acceptance with revisions; c) full rejection. In any of these cases, the author will be informed. Authors will be notified in any of these cases.
To effect publication, it is also necessary that all changes made by the author(s) be specified, informed/highlighted in the revised text, which must be submitted online through this journal’s electronic editing system. After submission of the revised article by the authors, it is forwarded for evaluation of the revisions, the final stage of the article analysis process regarding scientific merit. Language revision may be carried out by the Executive Team and Editorial Board. When they deem substantial modifications necessary, which may alter the author’s idea, the author will be notified and responsible for making them, returning the revised text within the maximum deadline determined by the editor.
The final decision on whether or not to publish the text is always made by the Editorial Board together with the Executive Team. The entire editing process can be followed by the authors through the electronic system with their login and password.
In this sense, we also emphasize that the final publication of the approved article will include the name or names of the editors responsible for the evaluation.
Open data
The journal Psicologia em Estudo encourages the sharing of primary data, codes, and other materials that, produced in research, usually remain underlying the submitted article (Guide for promoting openness, transparency, and reproducibility of research published by SciELO journals). These contents may be made available previously or at the time of publication. Exceptions are permitted in cases involving legal and ethical issues. The objective is to contribute to the preservation and reuse of content and research approved for publication (Guide for citation of research data). Information about the availability (or not) of the contents underlying submitted articles must appear in the Form on Compliance with Open Science (document to be completed and attached as a supplementary file at submission). This sharing is the responsibility of the article authors. SciELO offers its own repository, SciELO Data, available to authors who publish articles in journals indexed there (List of repositories for research data deposit).
The repository where the data and information are located, if applicable, must be cited in the text according to the Guide for citation of research data, preferably in the methodological section, included in the reference list and in the section “Research Data Availability”. In addition, we recommend consulting the Guide for promoting openness, transparency, and reproducibility of research published by SciELO journals and the Guide for citation of research data.
Fees
The journal Psicologia em Estudo does not charge a fee for submission and evaluation of articles. It is bilingual and, if the article is accepted for publication after evaluation, the authors will be responsible for paying for the translation into English (or Portuguese or Spanish, if the article is in English) with a translator accredited by the journal.
Ethics and Misconduct Policy, Erratum and Retraction
The journal adopts the publication ethics principles of the code of conduct of the Committee on Publication Ethics (Guide of good practices for strengthening ethics in scientific publication). Ethical issues and/or those that may harm the reputation of the journal will be evaluated and forwarded by the Editorial Board.
In cases of misconduct, the retraction policy will be applied by the journal according to the Guide of Good Practices of SciELO. The registration and publication of Errata (Guide for the registration, marking and publication of Errata), as well as the registration and publication of Retraction will also follow the recommendations proposed by SciELO (Guide for the registration, marking and publication of retraction), (Guide for the registration, marking and publication of Addendum).
Conflict of Interest Policy
Potential conflicts of interest are considered when authors, reviewers or editors have interests that, apparent or not, may influence the preparation or evaluation of manuscripts. Conflict of interest may be of a personal, commercial, political, academic or financial nature.
When based on a thesis or dissertation, we ask authors to indicate the author’s name, title, year, name of the graduate program and institution where it was presented.
Authors must indicate in the manuscript all financial support received from commercial or private entities, national or international organizations, or research support agencies to subsidize the costs of the study that gave rise to the article submitted for evaluation.
The reviewer must reveal to the editors any conflicts of interest that could influence their opinion about the manuscript and, when appropriate, must declare themselves not qualified to review it. The manuscript is evaluated by two reviewers who do not present conflict of interest with the research, authors or funders of the study.
Adoption of similarity checking software
As part of actions to promote academic integrity and prevent plagiarism in publications, the journal Psicologia em Estudo adopts the text similarity identification service using the application CopySpider as a basis. Up to 30% similarity of the text is considered acceptable.
Cases of plagiarism reported to the Journal after publication of the articles will be analyzed by the editorial team and, if the complaint is confirmed, the article will be immediately withdrawn from the Journal. Penalties may also be applied to the authors.
Adoption of software use of Artificial Intelligence resources
The journal Psicologia em Estudo does not accept the use of Chatbots or other artificial intelligences for the preparation of manuscript content. Its use, when necessary, must be restricted to assistance for grammatical correction, translation, and/or preparation and management of references.
We recommend adopting the Guide for the use of Artificial Intelligence tools and resources in research communication in the SciELO Network.
Sex and Gender Issues
All articles will be evaluated disregarding social markers of difference, such as gender, sexual orientation, race, religious belief, nationality, among others, as well as authors’ political positions.
Submitted manuscripts must observe the principles of the Sex and Gender Equity in Research guideline (SAGER), which guide reporting information about sex and gender in study planning, data analysis and results and interpretation of findings.
According to this guideline, the terms sex (biological attribute) and gender (shaped by social and cultural circumstances) must be used carefully to avoid confusion in their use.
Ethics Committee
In the case of text dealing with research involving human beings, documentary proof of approval by an Ethics Committee of the institution where the research was conducted will be required, in accordance with Resolution No. 510, of April 7, 2016, of the National Health Council. For researchers abroad, provide an equivalent document.
